Dreamforce consists of walking, talking, sitting, engaging, absorbing, and a few more steps. What it does not traditionally consist of is amazing food. Sure, there are some great parties at night but in order to survive the entire week you need to make sure you are fed properly at the end of each and every day. If you are new to San Francisco, or maybe in need for a new restaurant to try outside of the Moscone center, this post is for you. I have split this list into two categories— Touristy, consisting of restaurants that are a bit better known, and Authentic San Francisco, a little bit more hole in the wall lesser known restaurants. Bon Appetit!

Touristy Restaurants

Forbes Island — American/ Seafood

If you are looking to really impress a guest, or to have an adventure yourself, Forbes Island is the way to go. With a combination of a 4-course pre-fix dinner and eating on literally their own “island” this makes for a night you’ll never forget!

The Tonga Room & Hurricane Bar

The Tonga Room & Hurricane Bar — Asian cuisine

If you REALLY are looking to get-away from the hustle that is Dreamforce central, then take a trip to the Tonga Room. You’ll be sipping on fruity cocktails, enjoying a little tropical rainstorm (once every hour!), and a band playing from a thatch-covered barge on the lagoon.

Location: Nob Hill

Buena Vista Café — Bar & Cafe

Looking to start your day right, or a pick me up after a very long day? Head over to Buena Vista, which was credited with introducing Irish coffee to the US in 1952. Although you might only be able to find seating at the bar, it is easily the best seat since you can watch the bartenders make Irish Coffees by the 10s. Sit back, relax, and order some Corn Beef Hash and an Irish coffee (or two)!

House of Nanking — Chinese

Authentic Chinese food with a kick of interesting service. Don’t be offended when the servers tell you not to order what you want but instead try something different— trust them, the recommendations are typically crowd pleasers. And don’t forget to order the Jasmine tea!

Authentic San Francisco Restaurants

Nob Hill Café — Italian

Nob Hill

Sitting in between Nob Hill Apartment’s is Nob Hill Café, a small no reservations allowed Italian restaurant that out does itself with charm and comfort food, Italian style. My personal go-to is Gnocchi Bolognese or Petrale alla Mugnaia but anything you order here is going to be fantastic.

Golden Boy Pizza — Pizza Bar

If you are in North Beach area, or in need for an amazing slice of Pizza, the crust is a masterpiece on its own, head over to Golden Boy Pizza. A hole in the wall pizza spot where you can either order from their street front window or head inside for pizza and a beer, and maybe catch an inning of a Giant’s game.

Gracias Madre — Mexican

Don’t let the fact that this is a vegan restaurant deter you, it has a relaxed vibe and AMAZING food. If you are new to vegan I would advise asking the staff what they can point you towards. But I would strongly suggest anything with the cashew chesses, like: Flautas de Camote.

Urban Putt — American

The perfect mix of amazing food + ridiculously good drinks + Indoor Miniature Golf! How can you pass up a place like this? Start with the Fried Chicken and Waffle Skewers, main meal of deep dish pizza, and finish off with Fig and Brown Butter Tartlet. And once you finish a ridiculously good meal grab a drink and head downstairs for a round of miniature golf!

Umi — Sushi

If you want no frills, just good sushi, try Umi in Potrero Hill. The staff are friendly, the restaurant is small, and the food is outstanding. I LOVE Butterfish and they grill it to perfection in one of their small plates. They also offer all the standard rolls and some unique to SF, like: Giants, Potrero, and Golden Dragon.
